optimism is hard to obtain sometimes

Sun Feb 10, 2008, 9:58 AM
I try to be optimistic with all situations...but there's that little devil in the back of my mind that hammers away at this content shell i have created. At first i was doing great with school (i go to this god forsaken school which is the number one school in the country...but i hate it) and had a good GPA and all and then i thought i could do everything in the world and wanted to paint 7 long church pews while painting an advertisement board for this man...well i was dedicating hours into those two jobs plus going to this school (college more like it) and go half day to an art institute(which i love!). Push comes to shove, i start failing classes and now i face either continuing with this dam school or switching.

Why is that so bad? Because Colleges will look at it as if i just couldn't handle it and whatever and whatever....

SO...optimism. These schools will rather look at one bad year and look at my senior year(next year) and see great grades at a mediocre school and great artwork at a great institute....so there is my optimism after the pessimism....

I have survived!!!

yeh, my art supply $budget$ for next year concerns me, so I'm getting a paid position this summer. Generally, my art supplies aren't expensive...until I have to pay for tubes of oil paint and good drawing paper.
But you know you can draw. When you know you can draw, then you can use any material you want to create an image. art store supplies can be expensive, but I don't limit myself to the art store.
Zak Smith uses cheap acrylics and pens on the back of posters and other everyday slick surfaces and as a result gets cool unique effect. He thinks that expensive materials are a fad.
We'll see.
On my recent trip to NY I saw a lot of found object art (installations, sculptures, relief pieces, etc.)...I saw a lot in the Whitney and the New Museum.
